VISA/PASSPORT
Visitors to Malaysia must possess a valid international passport
or other internationally-recognized travel document endorsed for travel in
Malaysia. No VISA is required for entry into Malaysia. Please consult your
local embassy for further information. All travel documents must be valid for
at least 6 months from your date of departure.
CURRENCY
The unit of currency is the Ringgit Malaysia (RM) which is
divided into 100 cents or sen.
RELIGION
Islam is the official religion but Malaysia enjoys freedom of
worship, so it isn’t uncommon to see mosques, temples and chuches sharing the
same neighborhood. Hinduism, Taoism, Buddhism and Christianity are among the
other main religions practiced in Malaysia.
CLIMATE
Malaysia has a typical tropical climate with high humidity and
heavy rainfall almost year-round. There are no distinct seasons, and
temperatures range from a low of 21C° to a high 35C°, with cooler temperatures
in the hill stations. The Southwest monsoon brings light rains to Peninsular
Malaysia from June to September, while the Northeast monsoon brings heavier
rainfall and strong winds to the East Coast from November to February.
CLOTHING
Light cotton clothing and comfortable shoes are recommended for
year-round. Bring a light jacket or sweater if you plan to visit the hill
stations. For formal occasions and entry into certain clubs and fine-dining
restaurants, a jacket and tie is suggested for the men, while the women are
encouraged to wear a dress. Ba for formal occasions.tik, a local fabric, may
also be worm for formal occasions.
LANGUAGE
Malay is the national language, but English is widely spoken and
used in commerce. Other common languages or dialects are Cantonese, Mandarin
and Tamil.
ELECTRICITY
220 volts ac, 50 cycles throughout the country. If you are
planning to bring your own electrical equipment, please pack a converter. Some
hotels also provide converters upon request.
TRANSPORTATION
Taxis and busses service every major city in the country. In
Kuala Lumpur, the taxi meter starts at RM2 for air-conditioned taxis and 50%
surcharge applies between midnight and 6am on the metered fare. Most busses
operate on a fixed fare and range from 60 sen to RM1.50 per person. In Kuala
Lumpur, the LRT (Light Rail Transit) operates from 6am to midnight and tickets
may be purchased at the stations. Please check with your tour guide or hotel
