VISA/PASSPORT
Visitors to Singapore must possess a valid international
passport or other internationally-recognized travel document endorsed for
travel in Singapore. No VISA is required for entry into Singapore. Please
consult your local embassy for further information. All travel documents must
be valid for at least 6 months from your date of departure.
CURRENCY
The unit of currency is the Singapore Dollar (S$) which is
divided into 100 cents.
RELIGION
Like Malaysia, Singapore also enjoys freedom of worship, so it
is not uncommon to see mosques, temples and churches sharing the same
neighborhood. Islam, Hinduism, Taoism, Buddhism and Christianity are among the
main religions practiced in Singapore.
CLIMATE
Singapore has a typical tropical climate with high humidity and
heavy rainfall almost year-round. There are no distinct seasons, and
temperatures range from a low of 21C° to a high of 35C°.
CLOTHING
Light cotton clothing and comfortable shoes are recommended for
year-round. Suits and formal dresses will never be out of place in Singapore
nightspots or fine-dining restaurants.
LANGUAGE
The three most common languages spoken in Singapore are English,
Mandarin and Malay.
ELECTRICITY
220 volts ac, 50 cycles throughout the country. If you are
planning to bring your own electrical equipment, please pack a converter. Some
hotels also provide converters upon request.
TRANSPORTATION
As Singapore is so compact, most neighborhoods can be reached by
foot. Taxis in Singapore are metered and start at S$2.00 while intercity bus
fares start at 50 cents, depending on the distance you wish to travel. The LRT
(Light Rail Transit) operates from 6am to midnight and tickets may be obtained
